What's your definition of purpose?

Purpose is your main reason for being that comes from deep within, it is about your predestined contribution to the world and those around you. It is the value you bring by doing what you do and have been doing instinctively every time you went into an authentic exchange with the world. It is what drives you from deep inside, it gives shape to what will satisfy and fulfill you. Purpose is not how you go about impacting and changing lives, your how is just vehicles of choice. Purpose is the impact you make.

When did you know for sure what your purpose is and what you wanted to contribute to the world as your career?

I don’t know that one can say they know for sure what their purpose is, because it keeps unfolding and becoming clearer overtime. But the truth is from when I was young I knew that I wanted to help people to have better lives. In my young and innocent mind, teachers brought the difference that I longed to see so, I decided to pursue teaching as my vehicle of choice. Unfortunately, teaching was not a glamorous and high paying profession which I thought I needed to escape poverty, so I did not go that route. However, because our purpose is bigger than us and our circumstances, 14 years after starting my glamorous and high paying profession in IT my desire to change lives came knocking at my door again. During this time I realized that all the success and accomplishments from my career were not enough and I was feeling empty, no matter how hard I worked or how much money I was making. I knew then, that something had to change but I feared to make the change. But, thank God that by His grace and help I eventually made my career change and started my current business. I talk in detail about this transition in my upcoming book.

To date what's your most significant accomplishment?

Besides finding and living for Jesus - raising a great son who has the heart of a king and the spirit of a warrior, despite the fact that I had him when I was fourteen years old. He is by far my greatest achievement in this life. The second best thing that Ive done with my life is to break free from societal expectations and the norm of thinking success can only come from earning a good salary. This may not seem like much but, it is massive to me. My community preaches that the only way out of poverty is going to school, getting a good qualification, getting a good paying job, and amassing material wealth. Well, I did that and felt so empty and sadly, the more I did it the emptier I felt. Their definition of success did not match how I was wired so I felt trapped and tortured by life. But the day I realised that success depends on my wiring and it is about both achievement and fulfilment - that day I became free to be myself and play by my own rules! I dont have it fully together as yet, but I am loving this approach to life.

What's one tip you would give to someone trying to figure out what their purpose is, and living it no matter what?

I’d tell them:

● Look within and look back because everyday your purpose sends you clues.

● Look carefully at your days, pay attention to those moments when everything in you is in harmony - what are you doing, who’s there?

● Note that thing that when you do for others you find pleasure and fulfillment from that.

● Also pay attention to that thing/topic that bothers you to a point that you almost become an activist.

And I’d close with a warning - you purpose might not make obvious sense in a world that worships money but know that every dream and passion can be monetized - all you need to do is to be creative and think outside the box.

What's your definition of beauty and how do you celebrate your individual beauty?

What a beautiful question! Beauty is intrigue, the urge to look again, to ponder a little bit more about what you saw and what may lie behind beyond the surface. Beauty is depth, multifacetedness, being flawed and amazing all at once. It is about the packaging of the good, the bad, the ugly, the strengths and vulnerabilities of a person in an unrepeatable and uncopyable way held together by love and life. And sadly, I don’t think I celebrate my beauty much - maybe it’s because I had never made peace with my definition of beauty until you asked me this question. But with this definition in mind, I can safely say that daily I engage with my beauty in humbling ways. Recently, I find myself smiling at my flaws and noticing that they never surface independently of my awesomeness - the two always walk side by side.

Besides the Bible what's your favorite self development book?

The Bible is the leading book in my life and the following are also my favorites:

Rising Strong by Brene Brown - this book has really helped me to continue the work of picking up the pieces of my life in a structured way.

Women Food and God by Geneen Roth - this book helped me face my comfort eating habits and it pushed me into really uncomfortable places in my life that are now starting to bloom in amazing beauty.

Kiss That Frog by Brian Tracy & Christina Tracy Stein - this is the book that played a pivotal role in shifting my mindset as I prepared to change my career.
